One small step for man.
One giant leap for Indie filmmakers! Ground breaking digital cinema has arrived, forged in the fires of revolution. Jim Jannard, CEO and leader of RED
“We have come a long way since we were considered a scam.”
One year ago Jannard put together his dream team of engineers with the aspiration of building a digital cinema camera of the utmost quality while remaining affordable to the indie filmmakers, the result is the RED ONE™. Under the hood lays the heart of the beast, the MYSTERIUM, a 12-mega-pixel CMOS super 35mm sized sensor capable of capturing in 4k (4520 x 2540) up to 60 frames per second. What does that mean? It means open the door cause an alternative to film is finally home!
Don’t get me wrong, I am a film enthusiast and this is the very reason I am now die hard for RED. The hype machine is in full thrust and without a doubt caused tons of skepticism. What do you expect when RED builds a digital cinema camera that shoots at a resolution, latitude, and dynamic range comparable to 35mm film stocks, all on a Compact Flash (CF) card and at used car prices. Of course I was skeptical but above all I am a believer.
This is an extraordinary piece of technology backed by an unconventional company. Jannard says
“Everything in life changes… including our camera specs and delivery dates…”.
The RED team is consistently developing firmware upgrades that users can download into the RED ONE™ to unlock new features in development and even enhance image quality. Update: Current firmware build 15 is now shipping.
